What's the Top 10 Healthcare Reform Bill Lies?
Top Five Health Care Reform Lies—and How to Fight Back
Lie #1: President Obama wants to euthanize your grandma!!!

The truth: These accusations—of "death panels" and forced euthanasia—are, of course, flatly untrue. As an article from the Associated Press puts it: "No ‘death panel’ in health care bill."4 What’s the real deal? Reform legislation includes a provision, supported by the AARP, to offer senior citizens access to a professional medical counselor who will provide them with information on preparing a living will and other issues facing older Americans.5

Lie #2: Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan!!!

The truth: With reform, choices will increase, not decrease. Obama’s reform plans will create a health insurance exchange, a one-stop shopping marketplace for affordable, high-quality insurance options.6 Included in the exchange is the public health insurance option—a nationwide plan with a broad network of providers—that will operate alongside private insurance companies, injecting competition into the market to drive quality up and costs down.7

If you’re happy with your coverage and doctors, you can keep them.8 But the new public plan will expand choices to millions of businesses or individuals who choose to opt into it, including many who simply can’t afford health care now.

Lie #3: President Obama wants to implement Soviet-style rationing!!!

The truth: Health care reform will expand access to high-quality health insurance, and give individuals, families, and businesses more choices for coverage. Right now, big corporations decide whether to give you coverage, what doctors you get to see, and whether a particular procedure or medicine is covered—that is rationed care. And a big part of reform is to stop that.

Health care reform will do away with some of the most nefarious aspects of this rationing: discrimination for pre-existing conditions, insurers that cancel coverage when you get sick, gender discrimination, and lifetime and yearly limits on coverage.9 And outside of that, as noted above, reform will increase insurance options, not force anyone into a rationed situation.

Lie #4: Obama is secretly plotting to cut senior citizens’ Medicare benefits!!!

The truth: Health care reform plans will not reduce Medicare benefits.10 Reform includes savings from Medicare that are unrelated to patient care—in fact, the savings comes from cutting billions of dollars in overpayments to insurance companies and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse.11

Lie #5: Obama’s health care plan will bankrupt America!!!

The truth: We need health care reform now in order to prevent bankruptcy—to control spiraling costs that affect individuals, families, small businesses, and the American economy.

Right now, we spend more than $2 trillion dollars a year on health care.12 The average family premium is projected to rise to over $22,000 in the next decade13—and each year, nearly a million people face bankruptcy because of medical expenses.14 Reform, with an affordable, high-quality public option that can spur competition, is necessary to bring down skyrocketing costs. Also, President Obama’s reform plans would be fully paid for over 10 years and not add a penny to the deficit.15

We’re closer to real health care reform than we’ve ever been—and the next few weeks will decide whether it happens. We need to make sure the truth about health care reform is spread far and wide to combat right wing lies.
These are facts, you should check on them if you don’t believe them. I guess you’d feel better if he really was tryna kill your granny. Too bad Bush allowed the insurance costs and/or inability to pay killed mine!
TX Happy Horn, just from your name, I don’t expect for you to understand what is going on. You all are brainwashed from birth in TX. LMAO!

I’m glad we heard "your" truth. I feel a whole lot better now. NOT!
I’m still against it and your interpretation is a spin on what the bill actually says.

I agree that you recited some of the top lies about Obamacare, and it is your ‘truth’ responses that are the lies.

While ‘death panels’ was snarky, it wasn’t without a grain of truth, and she wasn’t just refering to the end of life counseling options. The whole system is designed specifically to cut care by rationing care particularly to the old, and you can see that in the way the House program is set up, in the fact that they think they are going to get half a trillion dollars from the already insolvent medicare fund (now that seniors who paid in all their lives through employment tax are actually going to need it) and from the fact that the standard of medicare coverage is dropping to what is ‘cost effective’. The committee they purposely shield from congressional pressure so it can deny procedures without political pressure will develope ‘best practices’ for what procedures are justified and doctors will need to ‘generally’ follow those practices. In England this means elderly don’t get some heart treatments, cancer patients don’t get some cancer drug, and a common cause of elderly blindness would only be treated in one eye leaving the other to go blind, as just a few of their cost management practices. An amendment was offered in Senate committee to PROHIBIT rationing of medically needed care, and it was voted down.

Emanuel’s brother who was brought in as a specialist consultant on the program has long written that medical resources can be ethically limited to the old ‘because they have had more years of life’ and that it somehow isn’t discriminatory ‘because every 65 year old has also been 35′. Well, that pretty much says there is no such thing as age discrimination in anything, it is all fair, which is nonsense.

Even if there is some rationing now, you have much more choice in insurance options, which you would not have under Obamacare. The idea that you can keep your old plan is disingenuous since plans will end, and you will never be able to get comperable coverage since no grandfathered plans will be allowed to take new enrollees. The government — out of all entities — should be the one to protect people from discrimination, not treat citizens unequally. If an insurance company breaches an obligation now, you can at least take them to court.

If this is a good plan, why is participation MANDATORY? Why do the unions Obama asked to turn out in support want to be exempt? Why doesn’t Congress want to be in it?

If preexisting conditions are the issue, why is the tail wagging the dog? Deal with that, and keep government control out of our medical care. Ron Paul has a plan that would leave people in control of their insurance and care and would drive down costs through portable health savings accounts. Driving down costs is the hugest issue because 85% will still be paying for our insurance and through payments covering those subsidized under the plan. Obamacare drives costs UP. Why didn’t they throw it out as soon as that became apparent?

The poor are already covered through medicaid and children are covered into the middle class. Do something about preexisting conditions, adopt individual health savings accounts that are portable and let individuals have the tax deductions and credits employers now get for them and leave our health care and insurance alone.

No one died and made government God.

What you list are the _effects_ of the bill, not the intent. Logic dictates all of these things. If you don’t understand how, do the research rather than just listening to cheerleaders or naysayers.

if you take off your rose colored glasses you may be able to see that you are correct in assuming the government will not outlaw private insurance,
however through cleverly designed tax structures against small business (already started to be implemented) it will be more cost effective for small companies to "ration"their health care insurance dollars to management salaried people, and leave the joe lunchpails with the much better designed gov’t program…..

as fas as expanding access to high quality heath care? the stock market is a good indicator of that…….the companies with the high tech end …advanced mri/cat scan machines, the outlook looks not so rosy(less money available for mri machines, but more money for bandages and and the basics of health care) it is not being shouted from the rooftops, but being played out on the stock exchanges….

but someone needs to combat left wing pollyanna-isms ….

    that they will cover everyone
that they will reduce the cost of health care
that they will reduce overall costs
that there will not be increased waiting periods
that they will not increase taxes on anyone but the rich
that they will not tax those who already have health care
that health care will not be rationed
that insurance companies will not be allowed to discriminate
that there will not be a central health provider
that research will not be cut
    do you need more?

let’s see, medicare will be bankrupt soon – it has already "borrowed" from social security

can you name even one private function that the government has taken over that it has gotten better? even one……didn’t think so.

Lie #2: Democrats are going to outlaw private insurance and force you into a government plan!!!

You might want to actually READ the house health bill before commenting… Section 102,a,1,A (Page 16) States clearly that no new enrollments into an individual insurance plan (ie Private Health care, like Kaiser, Blue Cross, Prudential, Travelers, etc…) will be allowed after the first day of the first year that this plan goes into effect.

Meaning….. New hires, or people wanting to change insurance companies, or change jobs will be mandated (forced) to be on the government plan. Meaning eventually insurance companies will be forced out of business because they will not be able to compete with the government AND they won’t be able to enroll any new members! That’s what this means!

But don’t listen to me…. read it for your self. Here is the link to the bill…
